Charles Martin

Charles William (Bill) Martin Sr., 87, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2009 at his residence. He was a Paratrooper in the United States Army, having served in the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Martin was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, a Past President of the Colonial Heights Optimist Club, the Colonial Heights American Legion Post #284, and a Past State Commander of the VFW Post #2239. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Edythe S. Martin; a son, Charles W. (Bill) Jr. and wife, Laura of New Kent; two granddaughters, Alex and Jesse Martin of Providence Forge; a sister, Dorothy Wilkerson of Appomattox; a devoted niece, Tracy Schutt of Colonial Heights and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 24, 2009 at Calvary Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Ray Haskett officiating. Interment private. The family will receive friends following the service at church.
