Charlotte Motto Hildreth, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, slipped through the veil on Sunday, November 23, 2014 at the Dunlop House Assisted Living Facility. Charlotte Irene Motto was born July 5, 1924 in Colonial Heights, Virginia. Born in the family home on the Boulevard, subsequently Martin Oldsmobile, she enjoyed the pleasure of being a true citizen of Colonial Heights. She grew up in Colonial Heights as a child of the Great Depression where she learned the value of hard work and thrift, which served her well throughout her life. She graduated from Petersburg High School and attended Richmond Professional Institute where she excelled in math and Latin. During World War II, she was an USO volunteer and civilian employee of the Department of Defense-Camp Lee. She met SSG Bill Hildreth of Texarkana, Texas while working at Fort Lee and they were married on March 1, 1950. They were later sealed for eternity in the Washington, DC Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Practically a life-long resident of Colonial Heights, she worked as a legal secretary for several businesses including the Arnold Pen Company, Camp Lee, the former Fort Lee, Virginia and the Commander, US Army Airborne Department, Fort Benning, Georgia. Electing to be a stay-at-home mom until her children were older, she is remembered by a generation of students from her numerous years as the attendance clerk at the Colonial Heights Junior High School. The culmination of over 40 years of service occurred with her retirement from the Colonial Heights Public School System as the secretary to the Colonial Heights School Superintendent. She was a lifelong member of the Colonial Heights Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she played the piano and organ for over 70 years, a member of the Colonial Heights Retired School Employee's Association, the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and the Colonial Heights Federated Women's Club. She was a volunteer for many years with the Treble Notes and the CHFWC entertaining numerous non-profit organizations. Additionally, she was a mainstay of the CH Band Boosters' theatrical presentations, namely Bye-Bye Birdie, South Pacific and the Music Man. She is also remembered for her participation with the Swift Creek Playhouse in numerous performances. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Bea, and loving husband, Billy S. Hildreth in June 1997. Her greatest treasures in life were her husband, her family and friends, and her faith. She is survived by her son, Colonel (retired) Brad Hildreth and wife, Kathy of Aubrey, Texas; brother, Kenneth Jackson and wife, Myrtle of Spring, Texas; grandchildren, Mary Catherine Garrett and husband, David of Charlotte, North Carolina, Ashley Hildreth of Tulum, Mexico, and Erin Hildreth of Salt Lake City, Utah; great grandchildren, Jaden Garrett, Josiah Garrett and Jace Garrett; nephew, Michael Rathmann and wife, Sandy of Yorktown and numerous relatives. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of the Dunlop House Assisted Living Facility and specifically the Alzheimer's unit in Rose Court for their untiring support and care-giving.
