Charlton Bond Hogwood entered the gates of heaven on Tuesday, April 10, 2018. He was preceded in death by his sister, Cheryl Stech; and his grandson, Greyson Thomas. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Cindy Hogwood; children, William, Cheryl, and Blake Hogwood; step-children, Angela Jordan and Ryan Markwood; father and step-mother, Donald and Anona Hogwood; mother, Eleanor Bucci; brothers, Chris Hogwood and Beau Hogwood; sisters, Challis Smith, Chawn Harris, Chana King and Dolle Hogwood; step-brothers and sisters, Dana Estes, Derek Estes, Debbie Estes and Kim Clements; as well as countless nephews, nieces and cousins. Charlton was best known for his service to his community, helping others, and for his love of NASCAR. He proudly served with honor and dedication in the Chesterfield Fire Department for 34 years. He started in the Ettrick Fire Department at 18 years old before becoming a paid firefighter for Chesterfield County in 1977, recruit school #8. Charlton was well known for volunteering for overtime. His steadfast commitment earned him Lieutenant status in 2002. He was assigned to Truck 12, shift B until his retirement in 2011. Charlton unfailingly put his family and friends first when it came to someone needing assistance. He could fix anything and was often called upon for his handyman and mechanic services. His work ethic was unmatched. Beyond family and friends, Charlton's first love was NASCAR racing, where he worked as a member of Lennie Pond's pit crew for Car 54. He worked alongside Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt, and many other NASCAR drivers. He would often say he would work sweeping floors, if it meant he could be around NASCAR. A Memorial Service to honor Charlton's life and service to his community will be held at The Heights Baptist Church, 17201 Jefferson Davis Hwy, S. Chesterfield, Virginia 23834, at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 2, 2018. The family will greet friends during a reception at the church following the service. Funeral services are being handled by the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Charlton to the Chesterfield Professional Firefighters Charitable Foundation, made payable to CPFFCF at P.O.
