Christelle Ammons Melvin, 94, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at Brighter Living Assisted Living Center. She was the daughter of the late John C. and Winifred St. Sing Ammons, and the widow of James S. Jacobs and Floyd S. Melvin. She was a member of First Christian Church, the Hopewell Moose #1472, the VFW Auxiliary Post #2239, the Colonial Heights American Legion Auxiliary Post #284, and the Southernaires. She is survived by a sister, Gladys A. Berry of Hopewell; a brother, Julian Cary Ammons Sr. of Colonial Heights; three step-children, Harriett Thompson, Stephen M. Melvin, and Ann M. Ayres; a niece, Jean G. Blankenship; four nephews, Dennis Berry, David Berry, Larry Berry; Terry Ammons; and many great nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 19, 2011 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with the Reverend Ronald E. Hopkins officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Christian Church, 301 E. South Boulevard, Petersburg, Virginia 23805.
