Christopher Caldwell

November 12, 1973 — October 14, 2016

Christopher Michael Caldwell, born November 12, 1973 in Stillwater, Oklahoma to James Franklin Caldwell and Marcia Ann Garst Caldwell, died on October 14, 2016. Chris cherished his son Jay, and exemplified parental love and support. Philosophy students knew him as Dr. Caldwell at the schools where he taught, including the University of Kansas, Southwestern College, Wichita State, and at Virginia State University, where he chaired the Department of History and Philosophy. He earned his undergraduate degree from Oklahoma State University and his MA and PhD in philosophy from the University of Kansas. Chris was a devoted colleague, a talented musician and vocalist, and a generous and thoughtful human being. The world is a poorer place for having lost him. His death is mourned by his son Jay, his wife Delilah, his mother Marcia, his brother Steve, and countless friends, students, and loved ones. A memorial service will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 22, 2016 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory 2033 Boulevard Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. In lieu of flowers, please consider offering Jay memories of Chris that you might be willing to write down. There will never be a way to make up for the loss of his papa, but having a broader picture made up of words from people who knew Chris at different times and places might help in some way. Please send any written memories to P.O. Box 176, New Philadelphia, OH 44663, or via email, ccaldwe8@aol.com. If you wish to make a monetary contribution, we ask that you contribute to Jay's college fund by mailing a check to Raymond James Financial Services, 1425 Oread West, Suite 106, Lawrence, KS 66049. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
