Clarence William Elder, Jr., 85, of Colonial Heights, VA passed away on December 22, 2015. Born in Petersburg, VA he was the son of the late Clarence William Sr. and Vera Cimburke Elder; and was also preceded in death by his son, William Ray Elder. Mr. Elder was retired from the United States Navy after 20 years of service. Once retiring from the Navy he worked for Reynolds Metals for 18 years in Richmond, VA. Mr. Elder was an avid gardener and enjoyed spending time on his pontoon boat at Lake Gaston. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Sarah H. Elder; two daughters, Alice Martin and husband, Gary and Ruby Joblin and husband, Larry; one daughter-in-law, Michele Elder; twelve grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dolores Elder. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 24, 2015 at the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, VA 23834 with the Rev. Wayne Williams, officiating. Interment will follow in Blandford Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at the funeral home.
