Clate “Clayton” Martin, 87, passed away July 29, 2022. He was born in Leckie (McDowell County), West Virginia on April 27, 1935 to the late Walter and Ella Martin and was also preceded in death by his first wife, Aggie Martin; siblings, Flake, John, Leonard, Charles, and June Martin, Pauline Rash, and Ann Presley, and beloved dog, Ginger. Mr. Martin was stationed in Germany while he served his country in the United States Army, and served as Maintenance Supervisor for Westvaco for 40 years. He enjoyed spending time outdoors gardening, farming, and caring for his yard. He loved animals and visiting the mountains of West Virginia, but above all he cherished the time that he spent with his family. He looked forward to family reunions and was always first in line for the food. Mr. Martin is survived by his wife of 42 years, Phyllis E. Martin; daughters, Kim Martin Branco (Jeff) and Mary Susan Martin (Ken McGee); grandchildren, Brooke Stone (David), Ashley Parson (Antonio), Amber Broaddus (Steve), Erika George (Benjamin), and William Clayton McGee; stepson, Michael Sadler and his wife Paula along with her children, Alicia, Jen, and Nick; stepdaughter, Robin Parson (Mike); sister, Betty Blankenship of Florida; great-grandchildren, Darius, SJ, Isabella, Hayden, Benjamin, Owen, and Parker; devoted caregiver, Keya Goode; and dachshund, Cocoa. Services will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Crater Community Hospice ( cratercommunityhospice.org ) or to the Alzheimer’s Association ( alz.org/donate ).
