Craig Allen Marek, 57, of Petersburg passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2023. Born October 30, 1965, he was the son beloved of Thomas Wayne Merek and the late Vivian Brewer Merek.
He worked various jobs for Southside Sheltered Workshop for 20 years. He was always excited to participate in the Special Olympics, where he loved to golf, bowl, and swim, always approaching these activities with a smile on his face. He was even awarded gold medals for golfing, amongst other medals he earned. Craig cherished his time with his family and loved listening to music and dancing. He loved visiting his brother in the boondocks where he would always request to cut down as many trees as he could. He was a beloved member of his family and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Craig’s kindness, spirit, and infectious laugh will be remembered forever.
He is survived by his father, Thomas Wayne Marek; brother, Keith Marek and wife, Pat “Patty Cake”; niece, Kelly Lawson and husband, Donald; great-nephew, Xain Lawson; great-niece, Cheza Lawson; other extended family members and many friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 9, 2023 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. Interment will follow in Blandford Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening, February 8, 2023 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Craig Allen Marek may be made to the Golf Program at the Special Olympics Virginia, 3212 Skipwith Road, Suite 100, Richmond, VA 23294.
