Daniel W. Tench, 49, originally from Colonial Heights, and affectionately known as "Grape Ape" by his friends, passed away suddenly Thursday, June 6, 2013 in Richmond. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin N. Tench and Lillie R. Tench, and also his great-nephew, Jordan W. Humphries. Daniel served in the United States Navy for 4 years, and for the better part of his life, he was an HVAC maintenance technician for several Richmond apartment complexes. For the past 3 years, Daniel has worked at McGuire Veteran's Hospital and has many close friends there. Daniel is survived by his sister, Amy Humphries of Dinwiddie; two nephews, David W. Humphries of Dinwiddie and Stephen M. Humphries of Chesterfield; one niece, Ambre M. Humphries of Chesterfield; five great-nephews and one great-niece. A memorial service will be held for Daniel at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2013 in the main chapel of McGuire VA Hospital. A second memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday, June 14, 2013 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, with Chaplain Harry Simmons (of McGuire VA Hospital) officiating.
