Daniel Alvin Wiegratz, 63, of Colonial Heights, died on Friday, September 15, 2017. He was the son of the late Norma and Daniel A. Wiegratz of Norfolk. After 40 years with Dominion Virginia Power, Danny retired as an Asst. Shift Supervisor. He then embarked on a second career dedicated to serving his community as a Certified Auxiliary Police Officer for the City of Colonial Heights. Danny had reached the rank of Lieutenant when his life was cut unfairly short by illness. Danny was also a current member of the Metro Richmond Police Emerald Society. From 1988-2013, Danny served as an Assistant Scout Master for the Boy Scouts of America where he helped all three of his sons achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. He also volunteered with his church where he was a member of the Parish Council and a Eucharistic Minister for many years. Danny had a big laugh and a slightly mischievous sense of humor. He will be remembered for his impressive work ethic, his willingness to always help a friend in need, and for his tireless commitment to both his immediate and extended family. Danny was pre-deceased by his son Russell Alvin Wiegratz. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mary Flippen Wiegratz, sons Daniel Andrew Wiegratz and Anthony Michael Wiegratz of whom he was very proud. He also leaves behind his late son's wife Jessica Plenderleith Wiegratz and their children Amara and Zane who were deeply loved by their "Papa." He is also survived by his siblings Carol Wiegratz Adkins, Rob Wiegratz, Barry Wiegratz, and Pamela Wiegratz Wollyung and her husband Jimmy as well as his wife's siblings Douglas Flippen and his wife Maureen, Gail Flippen Kelly and her husband Larry, Bruce Flippen, John Flippen, thirteen nieces and nephews, a number great-nieces and great-nephews, and last but not least the family pets Ian, Tiramie, Demon and Butters. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, September 19, 2017, from 6-8:00 pm at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, VA. 28834, with a Rosary at 6:00pm.
