David Matthew Blalock, 82, of Chesterfield, passed away Saturday, December 29, 2012 at his residence. He was the son of the late John Joe and Olin Wells Blalock of Blackstone. He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph. He retired from Allied Chemical and was an avid fox and deer hunter as long as health allowed. He was a youth sports coach and was inducted into USSSA Hall of Fame as a youth softball coach. Mr. Blalock is survived by his wife; Betty, children; son, Eugene and wife Beth, daughter; Sheree; son, Perry and wife Lori, son, Allen and wife Becky, eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Stell, Margaret Brockwell; brothers, Clint and Steve Blalock, and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 6, 2013 in Woods United Methodist Church, 7200 Hickory Road, South Chesterfield, with the Reverend Joseph Carson officiating. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, January 5, 2013 from 3:00-4:30 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, VA, 23834. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Woods United Methodist Church in the care of Heather Thomas.
