David Cunningham

David Marvin Cunningham, 86, of Hopewell, Virginia passed away Monday, August 23, 2010 at his residence. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilkes and Myrtle Cunningham; a brother, Wilkes Cunningham Jr.; and two sisters, Arline C. Riley, and Lois Farrar. Mr. Cunningham began his career at the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock in July 1941. In October 1945 he was drafted into the United States Army. He served two terms in Korea. Mr. Cunningham retired from the United States Army on May 31, 1966. He continued his career with the Defense General Supply Center and retired after 20 years of service. Mr. Cunningham was an entrepreneur starting several businesses over the years. He owned and operated the Battery Barn of Virginia located in Petersburg. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ann Bland Cunningham; five children, David Marvin Cunningham Jr. and his wife, Nancy, Patty C. Fallin, Wayne Cunningham and his wife, Kim, Kathy Bailey and her husband, Charles, Edward Cunningham and his wife, Pam; seven grandchildren, Michael Cunningham, Jason Cunningham, Kim Donada, Erica Thomasson, Kristen Thomasson, Holly Wray, and Eddie Cunningham Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Miranda Wray and Hunter Cunningham; brothers and sisters, Sadie Burg; Billy Cunningham and his wife, Joan, Wayne Cunningham, Glennie Singleton and her husband, James, Rebecca Tackett and her husband, Ed, and Patty Coleman and her husband, Neal; as well as many other family members and good friends. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 26, 2010 in the Petersburg Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 3935 S. Crater Road. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, Virginia. The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 25, 2010 from 7-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Western Heights Baptist Church, 24426 Cox Road, Petersburg, Virginia 23803 or to Crater Community Hospice, 3916 S.
