David Jackson, Sr.

David Pinkney Jackson, Sr., age 76, formally of Petersburg, VA was called to his Heavenly home November 2, 2021.  Born July 27, 1945, he was the son of the late Julius Mansfield Jackson and Ruth Munford Jackson and is also preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Joan Connelly Jackson; daughter, Margaret Jean Jackson; and son, David Pinkney Jackson, Jr.

Known to many as “Cat Bird”, “Big David”, Daddy, Paw-Paw, and Uncle David, he enjoyed a good cigar, operating heavy equipment, hunting, a great flannel shirt, a broken in pair of pants, and an Old Western.  He preferred a simple, hard-working life and was a man of few words. He gave all he had to his family and friends unconditionally.  He was a hard worker, a quiet observer, and a had a quick wit.  Mr. Jackson retired after ­­­­many years of dedicated service in the construction industry, which he loved so much that he went back and continued as a private contractor for family and friends.

He is survived by his children, Melonie Jackson, Jeanette Pack (Len), Jennifer Alvesgard, and Montana Jackson; a very special friend, Sandra White; his grandchildren, Terry Edwards (Bobby), Christopher Alvesgard, Kevin Alvesgard, and Alana Jackson; great-grandchildren, Cameron Pack, Nicolaus Alvesgard, Autumn Alvesgard; siblings, Sonny Jackson (Barbara), Doris Thompson (James), Sue Greene; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. Interment will follow in Blandford Cemetery.
