David Napier

David Elhannon Napier, 59, of McKee, Kentucky, formerly of Colonial Heights, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2017. David was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Dr. Patrick. E. Napier and Irene Turner Napier. He was a member of Union Church in Berea, Kentucky. David is survived by his children, Ashley Nicole Napier, Kevin Andrew Napier, and Benjamin Warren Napier; sisters, Pamela Eileen Napier (Joe Stites) and L J Van Belkum (Jim); nephews and niece, Jim Napier Stites, David Napier Stites, Alexander Van Belkum, and Hannah Van Belkum. David is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. Dave grew up in Kentucky and graduated from Butler County High School. After high school, he attended Western Kentucky University where he received bachelor's and master's degrees in Technology Education and went on to teach in Kentucky, Georgia, and Virginia. He enjoyed his teaching days with other great educators throughout the years and touched the lives of many students with his gifts of teaching, woodworking, and coaching. Dave included knowledge, humor, and encouragement in all that he did. While growing up, David's family attended Christmas Country Dance School in Berea, Kentucky, each year. Dave took over teaching his father's class, Kentucky Set Running, at CCDS and has shared his love for this event and the wonderful people there with his children. David loved to fish and cherished the time he spent with his long-time friends floating down the river. He loved the annual guys' fishing trip and the great times shared with his sons and friends. David positively touched the lives of many and was able to make us all laugh and smile. Most of all, he loved his children and was so proud of them. The family is very grateful for the outpouring of love and support from friends and family in both Virginia and Kentucky during this time of loss. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, April 3, 2017 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 3701 Conduit Rd, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. Visitation will follow the service. A memorial service will also be held for David at Union Church in Berea, Kentucky on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Funeral services by the Colonial Heights Chapel of E.
