NELSON, David M "Dave", 64, of Chesterfield County, passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2017 following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Mendel and Virginia Nelson and nephew, Richard Ponton. Dave is survived by his wife of 32 years, Elizabeth "Beth" Nelson; son, Sean Nelson (Emily) of York, SC; sisters, Sandra Snitkin (Lou) of White Plains, NY, Charlotte Woodcock (Kenneth) of Chester, and Kriss Glass (Clayton) of Dinwiddie; brother, Michael Nelson (Elizabeth) of Mooresville, NC; nieces, Diana Ess (Jason) of Columbia, MO and Kendall Nelson of Mooresville, NC; nephews, Jesse Woodcock of Chester and Samuel Nelson of Mooresville, NC; great-niece, Carly Ess and great-nephew, Rylan Ess both of Columbia, MO; mother-in-law, Virginia Wheeler and sister-in-law, Nancy Wheeler both of Colonial Heights. Dave played football for and graduated from Petersburg High School. Until his retirement upon learning of his diagnosis, he was a kitchen and bath designer for several cabinet companies in the Richmond area. He had been an Assistant Scoutmaster for BSA Troop 806, leading a group of Scouts to Northern Tier and Sea Base. He was a former volunteer at Phillips Volunteer Fire Department. He loved �shing, rooted for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Team Penske racing, and liked to brag on his son's Scouting and racing accomplishments. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 6, 2017 at First Baptist Church, 235 West Washington Street, Petersburg, VA, with the Reverend Rob Dawson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, S. Prince George, Virginia.
