David Rudy Perkinson Jr. David R. Perkinson Jr., 53, passed away peacefully November 14, 2011 with his family, friends and earthly angel, Pam Sharp, who was his caregiver throughout his illness, next to his side. He was preceded in death by his father, David R. Perkinson, Sr. David loved life and all outdoor activities. His travels with Pam to the Florida Keys, Myrtle Beach, and a Caribbean cruise were at the top of his favorites. Their latest trip was to Bristol Motor Speedway in August. An avid NASCAR fan, just like his dad, he loved those races! Summertime visits to Hatteras, N.C. with trips to "the Point" was also a highlight. There, he collected many beautiful seashells to share with his family. He also shared the love of work with his dad, and their work ethic was like nothing anyone had ever seen. His first job was as a paperboy at age 8, and on to dipping ice-cream at High's ice Cream during his teen years. He continued to work throughout his adult life, and until his illness worsened, David was employed with Arbor Tech Forest Products, Inc. in Blackstone, as their main machinist. David will be greatly missed by all who loved him. Along with the love of his life, Pam Sharp and her family, he is survived by his daughter, Jenna Leigh Perkinson; mother, Sally Perkinson; sisters, Diane Smithson and husband, Karl, Kathy Hicks, and Brenda Perkinson; brothers, Gary and wife, Robin and Billy; as well as by his nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncle. His four-legged friends, Sammy and Tilt, will also miss him. A 1977 graduate of Dinwiddie County High School, he had many friends that will miss his sweet smile and those beautiful dimples! His faith and love of The Lord sustained him throughout his illness. "Don't cry, everything is going to be alright, ‘cause I'm at peace." He would tell us. "I'm going to be with The Lord and see Dad, and all my friends that went before me." A special thanks goes to Jeanne and all his caregivers at Horizons Hospice, as they helped ease David's pain and suffering. All are invited to a Celebration of David's Life at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 26, 2011 in the Rock Church of Petersburg, 2301 County Drive, Petersburg, Virginia 23803 with the Reverend Sonja Davis officiating.
