Dean Johnson

Dean Johnson, 79, of S. Chesterfield, Virginia and Kill Devil Hills, NC passed away on Tuesday, April 13, 2021. Born January 4, 1942, he was the son of the late Joseph and Margaret Johnson and was also preceded in death by his brothers Wayne and Vance Johnson. In 1969, Dean started a successful business called Custom Metal Fabricators, where his employees were like family to him. He had a passion for boats and fishing, especially offshore fishing, and was on the water every chance he got. After his retirement, he and his partner, Kathy, enjoyed hanging out in the Outer Banks and Florida, and loved traveling the country. Dean is survived by his longtime companion, Kathy G. Hall; son, Shannon D. Johnson; brother, Gary “Joe” Johnson; several nieces and nephews and many special friends. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, 9227 River Road, S. Chesterfield, VA 23803. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church (River Road) or Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church, 803 W Kitty Hawk Rd, Kitty Hawk, NC 27949.
