Dennis R. Hare, 88, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2008 at his residence. He was born in Hopewell on March 27, 1920. He was the son of the late Roan Alexander and Minnie Temple Hare. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Roan A. Hare, Jr. and Bernard T. Hare, three sisters, Mildred H. Utipil, Evelyn H. Gish, and Edna H. Hicks. He was a World War II veteran and a member of the Colonial Heights American Legion Post 284. He was a member of Matoaca Baptist Church. He was retired from Allied Chemical after 23 years as a pipefitter. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Weaver Hare; four sons, H. Michael Hare of Colonial Heights, Philip K. Hare and wife Shirley, Richard D. Hare and wife Lori, Timothy R. Hare and wife Christine all of Chesterfield; five grandchildren, Colby M. Hare, Tegan N. Hare, Spencer P. Hare, Caylea J. Hare all of Colonial Heights, and Chris P. Hare of Chesterfield; four nieces and three devoted nephews, Turner Hare of Claremont, Dennis Hare of Carson, and Donnie Hare of Prince George; a sister-in-law, Margaret G. Hare of Prince George, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Margaret and Jimmy Hodges of Matoaca. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at East Matoaca Cemetery with the Rev. Donald Joyner officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Matoaca Baptist Church, 6409 River Road, Petersburg, Virginia 23803, or the Colonial Heights SPCA, 201 Temple Avenue, Suite # E, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834.
