Dewey T. Oakley Jr., 75, of Colonial Heights passed away on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at Retreat Hospital. Born in North Carolina, he was the son of the late Hattie Lou Weaver and Dewey Taft Oakley Sr. Mr. Oakley was a graduate of East Carolina University and Virginia Commonwealth University. He had a love for education and people, and was the Head of Vocational Education for many years and ended his career in Henrico County. In 1991 he was awarded the National Educator of the Year, for which we are extremely proud. He is survived by his wife, Linda C. Oakley; a daughter, Lynn O. Stell; a son, David C. Oakley; seven grandchildren, Kevin Townsend, T.J. Stell, Tonya, Craig, Carly, Wendy, and Aaron Oakley; and a brother, Coy W. Oakley and wife, Ruth. Mr. Oakley wanted everyone to know that he is at peace with God, and due to his final request, there will be no visitation or funeral. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Lung Association towards ARDS research.
