Don Eckerd

Don Michael Eckerd, 72, of Colonial Heights, died Monday, August 2, 2010 at the Medical College of Virginia. He was born in Berkley Springs, West Virginia to the late James H. and Goldie Silver Eckerd and was preceded in death by two brothers, Silver Eckerd, Kenneth S. Eckerd and one sister, Eileen Young. Mr. Eckerd was a United States Army Veteran and retired from Allied Signal. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Brannon Eckerd; two daughters, Michelle E. Cantaral and husband, Doug, and Cindy Eckerd all of Chester; a son, Jack M. Eckerd of Mechanicsville; grandchildren, Don Mathew Cantaral, Jennifer Cantaral English and husband, R. J., and Stephen Cantaral; great-grandson, Colby J. English; numerous nieces and nephews; and his cat Smokey. Special thanks to Same Day Surgery staff at Southside Regional and Dr. K., Dr. Yellinedi, and their staff for excellent service and care. A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, August 14, 2010 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard 23834, with the Reverend Dr. Ray Haskett officiating. Interment will be Private. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.
