Donald Keith Barnes, 66, of Colonial Heights, VA, passed from this life while surrounded by his family, on Monday, January 30, 2017 at Southside Regional Medical Center. Born in Petersburg, VA, he was the son of the late Luther E. and Olivia Hennaman Barnes. Mr. Barnes had worked for Brown and Williamson Tobacco in Petersburg until their closing, had served as a warehouse manager for Coca Cola Enterprises, and retired from Ukrop's/Martin's in 2012 as the meat department manager. Donald was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Colonial Heights, a member of the Tatum Road Hunt Club and had been active in the softball leagues in his earlier years in Colonial Heights. He was an avid hunter and golfer and loved to cook and barbecue for family and friends. Mr. Barnes is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Debbie Wall Barnes; two sons, Matthew Brandon Barnes and Eric Spencer Barnes (Megan Loving); two granddaughters, Emma Kay and Allison Dawn Barnes; two sisters, Marcia Birdsong (Allen) and Brenda Hargrave (Jim); nephews, Tim Birdsong (Lynn) and Robert Gunter; one niece, Rebecca Birdsong; mother-in-law, Vivian Wall; sister-in-law, Martha Gunter (Donald), his devoted lab, Sam; and numerous cousins and friends. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2017, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 3701 Conduit Rd., Colonial Heights, VA 23834, with the Rev. L. Raymond McGarr officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be private.
