Donald Brittingham

MSGT Donald Gordon Brittingham (Ret.), 86, of Petersburg, Virginia passed away on Monday, January 4, 2016. Born on February 26, 1929, he was the son of the late Francis E. and Mabel M. Brittingham, and was also preceded in death by one brother, Francis E. Brittingham, Jr. Mr. Brittingham is survived by his loving wife, Judy; one son, Donald G. Brittingham of Hopewell, Virginia; daughter, Donna Tyler and husband, Timothy of Crisfield, Maryland; brothers, Robert C. Brittingham of Louisa, Virginia, James M. Brittingham of Wilmington, Delaware; sister-in-law, Delores Brittingham of Baltimore, Maryland; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces; special life-long friend, CMSGT Frank Sheppard (Ret.) and wife, Lucy of Washington, North Carolina; and his faithful companion, "Misty". MSGT Brittingham served in the United States Army and Air Force, stationed stateside and overseas (Japan, Vietnam, and Canada) and received numerous awards and commendations. He was a member of the AFSA, VFW, TREA, The American Legion and NRA. He was also a member and Past Master of the Powhatan Starke A.F. & A.M. #124 and a member of several other local masonic lodges. Donald enjoyed gardening and sharing the bounty, working on his vehicles and NASCAR. A great joy was helping others, but he never wanted any credit. The family would like to extend a special thank you to his wonderful nurses at Johnston Willis Neurosciences ICU (2nd Floor). The family will be forever grateful to them for their excellent care. The family will receive friends from 10-11:15 a.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at the Crater Road Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 3935 S. Crater Rd. Petersburg, Virginia 23805. A procession will leave the funeral home at 11:15 a.m., followed by a graveside service at 11:30 a.m. in Southlawn Memorial Park with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Best Friends Animal Society, ATTN: Janna W. 5001 Angel Canyon Road P.O. Box 567 Kanab, Utah 84741-0567.
