Donald W. Dobrick, Sr., 79, passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2017 at the Dunlop House in Colonial Heights. Born in Connellsville, Pennsylvania on March 9, 1938, he was the son of the late Herbert R. and Grace M. Dobrick, and was also preceded in death by his wife, Pauline M. Dobrick; and brother, John Dobrick. After 26 years of dedicated service to our country, Donald retired from the United States Navy. He was a past commander of the Colonial Heights American Legion Post 284, a member of the Eagles Club in Petersburg and the Moose Lodge in Colonial Heights. After over 20 years of service, he retired as an electrical engineer from Allied Chemical. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time boating. He is survived by his children, Donald W. Dobrick, Jr. and wife, Judy, Cynthia D. Haynie and husband, Sean, Michael A. Dobrick, Nikki D. Benninghoff and husband, Bill; grandchildren, Brooke, Elizabeth, Max, Paige, Kala, Hannah, Jules and Serena; two brothers, Robert A. and Harry R. Dobrick; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2017 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, with Chaplain William Gibson officiating. Interment will follow in Appomattox Cemetery, Hopewell, Virginia, with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. Saturday morning at the funeral home.
