On Tuesday, December 1, Donald Earl Moore, 84, went home to spend eternity in Heaven with Jesus after losing a battle with Covid pneumonia. Donald was born in Durham, NC to George and Nell Dance Moore. His family moved to Petersburg, VA in 1939. Donald spent most of his life in Colonial Heights, VA. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Glenn Moore (Dorothy), and sister, Norma Dodson (William). He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Patsy Sadler Moore; his daughter, Valarie Moore Squerciati (John); granddaughters, Paula and Gabriela; his brother, George Moore (Dianne); numerous brothers and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews; lifelong friends and co-workers; camping buddies; and fellow servants in The Optimist Club. Donald and Patsy met in 1957 at Woodlawn Baptist Church in Colonial Heights when Patsy was 15 years old. They eloped to Dillon, SC in 1961 and honeymooned in Myrtle Beach. They continued to live with the purpose of loving and serving one another right up until his passing. Donald graduated from Petersburg High School in 1954. He joined the Virginia Army National Guard 1954-1962. He then attended VPISU (now Virginia Tech University) where he graduated in 1966 with a BS in electrical engineering. He was a Hokie football fan for life. Donald spent most of his long career as a substation engineer at VEPCO (now Dominion Energy) in the Richmond, VA area. Donald and Patsy loved traveling together in their motor home spending countless time at Thousand Trails in Chesapeake, VA where Donald loved water volleyball, card and board games, and laughing with dear friends. They also spent many summer vacations camping in Myrtle Beach, SC where Donald enjoyed sandpit horseshoes, golf, seafood buffets, and teaching Valarie to body surf. Donald adored his two granddaughters and was excited to live near them in the Herndon, VA area the last year and half of his life. He will be remembered as a kind and selfless man who cherished his family.
There will be visitation from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834 (masks required).
