Donald Purcell

PURCELL, Donald W., 87, of Colonial Heights, Va., passed away July 17, 2016 after a life full of love, laughs and loyal service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel W. and Elizabeth F. Purcell; his stepfather Ellwood White; sisters Catherine, Julia, Dorothy, Elizabeth, May and Dot; and brothers Robert and Christian. He is survived by his wife, Mary; his children Donna (James Mayes) and Jeffrey (Mary); his sisters Marie Mizelle and Carolyn Clagett; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, especially Linda Lynch. After retiring from the U.S. Army, Don worked for Titmus Optical and Bulifant Insurance. He volunteered countless hours with Boy Scout Troop 184, American Legion Post 284 and The 40 & 8 Voiture Locale 1530. The family thanks Southside Regional Medical Center and Gentiva Hospice staffs for their loving, respectful care. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. A private interment will be held at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Don requested donations to Crater Community Hospice in Petersburg, Va.
