Donald Sloan

1SG Donald Ray Sloan (ret. USA), 79, of Petersburg, a native of Ray County, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Henrico Doctor's Hospital. He retired in 1973 from the United States Army (Airborne) with 21 years of service, having served in Vietnam, and opened his first of many family owned service stations. Mr. Sloan was a devoted husband to the love of his life for over 60 years, Charlene Faye Sloan; devoted father to his four sons, Bob Sloan and wife, Lois of Lebanon, Tennessee, Richard Sloan and wife, Phyllis of Chester, Chris Sloan and wife, Kim of Dinwiddie and Chuck Sloan and wife, Cheryl of Prince George; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and his faithful dog, Festus. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 23, 2013 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with the Reverend Jacob H. Sahms officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
