Doris Hoagland, 77, passed away peacefully at her home in Colonial Heights, Virginia on February 10, 2015 after a brief illness. Born and raised in South Plainfield, New Jersey, Doris lived most of her life in New Brunswick, New Jersey before retiring to Colonial Heights to live near her daughter. As a homemaker, Doris was dedicated to her four children, eventually returning to the work force as a secretary at Triangle Wire and Cable in New Brunswick and Sabert Corporation in Sayreville, New Jersey. Her biggest avocation was cheerleading - she coached hundreds of young cheerleaders at Sacred Heart and St. Peters elementary schools in New Brunswick, New Jersey during her 25 years of volunteer service, and the annual tournament at St. Peters was named in her honor. A big sports enthusiast, she was an avid Giants football fan and a rabid New York Rangers hockey fan. She was also a fabulous cook and passed along many great family recipes. She was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Helen Niemczyk, as well as her sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Ron Weber of Surfside Beach, South Carolina. Doris is survived by her children: daughter, Susan Hoagland of San Antonio, Texas; son, Edward Hoagland and his wife, Debbie of Flower Mound, Texas; daughter, Betsy Dunsworth and her husband, Leroy of Peyton, Colorado; and daughter, Jill De Rasmo and her husband, Mark of Colonial Heights, Virginia. Also surviving are her four loving grandchildren: Kyle and Caitlin Hoagland, and Elizabeth and Maria De Rasmo. Visitation will be from 1 to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 15, 2015 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia, 23834. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her name to any of her favorite charities: Operation Smile (www.operationsmile.org) in Virginia, Priests of the Sacred Heart (www.poshuse.org) in Wisconsin, or Soaring Eagle Mission (www.soaringeagle.org) in Montana.
