Dorothy Jean Shelor Jordan, 80, of Matoaca, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 following a courageous battle with Alzheimer's and heart disease. She was born on September 5, 1932 in Christiansburg, Virginia to Conley White Shelor and Opal Johnston Shelor. Mrs. Jordan was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Harry D. Shelor; and two daughters, Claudia Elaine Jordan and Cynthia Jean Aaron. She was married to Claude Eldridge Jordan Sr. on December 3, 1955. They lived in Colonial Heights before retiring to Matoaca. Jean was a devoted housewife and mother and was passionate about making a difference in the lives of her family. Jean was a lifetime member and two time past president of VFW Post #2239 Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by her husband; daughters, Peggy T. Jordan (Bill Slaughter) of Colonial Heights; Cathy J. Daniel (David Daniel) of Collington Harbor, North Carolina; son, Claude E. Jordan Jr. (Robin Kester) of Colonial Heights; son-in-law, John L. Aaron of Colonial Heights; five grandchildren, Matthew Aaron, Dustin Ferrell, Wain Ferrell, Zachary Jordan, Alissa Stables; and one great-grandchild, Morgan Stables. Jean's funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 25, 2013 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with Mr. Herbert S. Small officiating. Interment will follow in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
