Dorothy Kollman

July 23, 1927 — March 4, 2017

Dorothy Wilson Kollman, 89, of Colonial Heights went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 4, 2017 after a period of declining health. Born on July 23, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Doris Wilson. Mrs. Kollman was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 70 years, John Christopher Kollman, Jr.; sister, Jackie Fenderson; daughter, Debra Kollman Olingher; and beloved grandson, Patrick Holleman. Mrs. Kollman was a graduate of Petersburg High School and owned her own business, The Friendly Hearth Antique Shop for many years. She was a current member of Highland United Methodist Church and a past member of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Colonial Heights, where she taught the five-year-old children's Sunday School and sang in the choir for many years. Mrs. Kollman was a member of the Woodpecker Lodge Community Grange. She is survived by her children, J. Chris Kollman III and wife, Elaine, Nancy Kollman Holleman and husband, Jack, William L. Kollman and wife, Carol; eight grandchildren, Kristie Belvin, Stephanie Underwood, J. Christopher Kollman IV, Amy N. Vassas, Julie E. Connolly, Margo Kollman, Bill Kollman, Katie Kollman; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and brother John Wilson and wife, Janet. The family would like to give special thanks to the following people who provided Mrs. Kollman with in-home personal care for the past two years: Tosoga, Paulina, Bridgett, Ernestine, and Elaine. A very special thank you to Julia West, who provided excellent care for Dorothy and was a wonderful friend to the family. They would also like to thank the many employees of the Crater Community Hospice Organization for all of their support, and Colonial Heights Fire and EMS for their care and professionalism. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends and hour prior to the service from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Thursday morning at the funeral home. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
