Dorothy Hope Robertson Smith, 89, passed away on Friday, January 15, 2010 at Southside Regional Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late William and Martha Robertson of Matoaca. She was preceded in death by a sister, Fannie Robertson Bradley, and two brothers, Calvin Robertson and Harold Robertson. She is survived by a sister, Winnie Robertson Wilson, of St. Charles, Missouri, and by her two sons, Reuel Lhamon Smith III of Bloomington, Indiana, and Donald Robertson Smith of Knoxville, Tennessee. She was born on April 19, 1920 in Matoaca, and grew up on Halloway Ave. She worked at Camp Lee in the early 1940's, and there she met her late husband, Reuel L. Smith Jr. of Kingsport, Tennessee. During her long life, she lived in Knoxville, Tennessee; Reading, Ohio; Kingsport, Tennessee, and for the last twenty-five years, here in Petersburg. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 24, 2010 at Matoaca United Methodist Church, 6301 River Road, Matoaca. The family may be contacted by calling 812-391-9369.
