Dorothy Stout

August 21, 1926 — June 10, 2016

Dorothy Mae Thompson Stout, 89, of Southern Chesterfield County, passed away on Friday, June 10, 2016. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Clifford B. Stout; her parents, Una M. and James N. Thompson; and a son, Brian Lee Stout. Dorothy was a life-long resident of the tri-cities and long-standing member of Ettrick Baptist Church. Dorothy, a 1946 graduate of Petersburg High School, was a retired civil service employee, employed at both Bellwood and Fort Lee. During her career, she worked in personnel, supply, and the office of the commanding general. Attention to detail was a skill Dorothy possessed in abundance. Mrs. Stout enjoyed going out to eat and was a sophisticated movie viewer. She was a championship shopper who prided herself on 18 hour Black Friday shopping trips well into her 70's. Well-read and a proud, life-long Democrat, Mrs. Stout also relished arguing politics. As a passionate animal-lover, Dorothy took pleasure in sharing her life with many pets over the years. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Evans; son-in-law, Derek Evans; and two aunts, Shirley Wilson and Gertrude Brankley. The family would like to thank the staff at the Crossings at Ironbridge and two devoted friends, Susan Belcher and Kay Ingram. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, VA 23834. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, VA. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 13, 2016 at the funeral home.
