Dorothy Mae Wiggins, of Colonial Heights, passed away on November 3, 2012, after a brief period of declining health. Dorothy was born July 24, 1916 in Isle of Wright County, Virginia to the late Hiden and Queenie Womble. She was baptized in Mill Swamp Baptist Church, Smithfield, Virginia where she attended services in her youth. After her marriage, she traveled with her husband who was a welder and steam fitter with Local 540, and resided in various localities, including Chester, Pennsylvania & Saluda, South Carolina, and for the majority of her life, Newport News, Virginia. While in Newport News she attended Calvary Baptist Church. Dorothy was devoted to her family. She often shared stories of life during the Great Depression. She enjoyed antiques and doll collecting and was a beloved regular patron of the Hot Shoppe and Piccadilly restaurants. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold James Wiggins; her daughter, Dorothy Rebecca Barbour; her son, Charles Wiggins; two sisters; and four brothers. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Dees and her husband, John; her son, Arnold James Wiggins II and his companion, Jackie; her son, Walter R. Wiggins; her daughter-in-law, Rose Wiggins; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews who will miss her. A Memorial service will be held Saturday, November 17, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in Immanuel Baptist Church, 620 Lafayette Ave., Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834 with the Reverends Fred Adkins and Charles Thompson officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service at church and there will be a reception in the church Fellowship Hall following the service. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Arrangements by the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard.
