Douglas Stables

Douglas Lynn Stables, 71, of Chester went peacefully to be with his Lord on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 with his daughter, Alissa, his ex-wife, Cathy, and his dogs, Romeo and Juliet by his side. Born in Rich Creek, Virginia on September 19, 1946, he was the son of the late Opie Hampton and Velma Kight Stables, and was also preceded in death by his brother, Marshall Dale Stables. He attended Rich Creek Elementary and graduated from Narrows High School. Doug joined the United States Navy in 1965. After an honorable discharge from the Navy, he worked for Richardson's Wayland Electrical Corporation and then Virginia Electric and Power Company (Dominion), where he retired in 2000. He worked his way up from groundman to lineman, to local supervisor at his retirement. Doug loved his job and the people he worked with. Left to cherish the many memories of Doug are his daughter, Alissa Elaine Stables of Chester; granddaughter, Morgan Delain Stables of Chester; ex-wife, Cathy Daniel (David) of Kill Devil Hills, NC; sister, Carolyn Sparks Edwards of Roanoke, VA; sister-in-law, Myra Stables of Piney Flats, TN; niece, Marianne Doane (Brian) of Piney Flatts, TN; great-niece, Marrissa Doane; great-nephew, Caleb Doane of Piney Flats, TN; niece, Kimberly Pike (Dan) of Clemmons, NC; great-nephews, Kevin McCarthy, Jr., Jack McCarthy; great-niece, Savannah McCarthy of Clemmons, NC; numerous cousins; and close friends, Ronnie and Bonnie Ballard of Hardy, VA and Dale and Carol Smith of Rich Creek, VA. A celebration of Doug's Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at the Colonial Heights Lodge, 170 Moose Avenue, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Moose Lodge. Funeral arrangements are being handle by the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
