Douglas R. Strother Sr. Douglas R. Strother Sr., 84, of Colonial Heights, passed away Tuesday May 28, 2013 at the Colonial Heights Health Care Center. He was the son of the late George Edwin Strother Jr., and Lillian Figner Strother and was preceded in death by his wife Ursula K. Strother. Mr. Strother was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict and retired after 21 years from the United States Army as an Sergeant 1st class he retired from the County of Chesterfield as a utility inspector. He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Colonial Heights, and the Crater Antique Car Club of Petersburg, Richmond Packard Automobile Club, American Legion Post 284, and the 40&8 Voiture #1530. Mr. Strother is survived by his.; daughters, Diane S. Hunter and husband, Gray of Chesterfield, and Debbie S. Slaybaugh and husband, Brad of Colonial Heights; son, David E. Strother and wife, Shelley of Trappe, Maryland; eight grandchildren, Wilton Gray Hunter III, Travis Scott Hunter, Neil Patrick Hunter, Madison Marie Strother, Emily Elizabeth Strother, Haley Marie Slaybaugh, Kellie Ann Slaybaugh, and Casie Elizabeth Slaybaugh, a brother George Edwin Strother III, and wife Elizabeth of Colonial Heights, sister June Strother Shissias and husband George of Columbia South Carolina. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday June 3, 2013 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with Father Lou Ruoff, Celebrant. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester, with military honors. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday June 2, 2013 at the funeral home.
