Duane E. James, 65, of Colonial Heights, VA passed on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Chippenham Medical Center. Born in Petersburg, VA he was the son of the late Ira Vernard and Helen Pannier James. Duane was a sports enthusiast. He attended all of the Colonial Heights Colonials sporting events and had helped as an assistant coach to several rec league baseball teams. He was friends with a lot of the players and would always give them words of encouragement. He loved to cheer on the University of Richmond Spiders, The Cleveland Indians, Baltimore Orioles, the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Washington Redskins. He enjoyed spending time with his dog Bucky and working with the youth group at Gary's United Methodist Church. Duane loved to travel, especially to Fredericksburg, VA and Erie, PA. He loved to take pictures and share them with friends on facebook, work crossword puzzles, see it snow and make people laugh with his jokes. Duane never met a stranger and was loved by all. Duane is survived by his special friend, Robyn Moody; numerous cousins; and many many friends. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, VA 23834. Interment will follow in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, VA. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 1, 2016 at the funeral home.
