Earl "Red" Compton, 66 of Dinwiddie County, passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at his residence. He was born in Petersburg and was the son of the late, Luther Thomas and Virgie Marie Wagner Compton. Mr. Compton was a U.S. Army veteran having served in Vietnam and was a Bronze Star recipient. He retired from Dinwiddie County Water Authority and is survived by his wife, Sarah Elizabeth Compton, four children; April Pritt and husband, Dwayne, George B. Compton, Elizabeth Squires and husband, Kevin, Thomas L. Compton and wife, Dawn, thirteen grandchildren, Keri Ludwig, Tiffanie Cooke, Dustin Pritt, Elsie Mae Compton, David Pritt, Alexander Squires, Timothy Squires, Isaac Squires, Josiah Squires, Lauren Squires, Desteny Compton, Travis Compton and Logan Compton four great-grandchildren, Mallory Ludwig, Myles Ludwig, Barry Cooke and Ariya Compton, four sisters; Elsie Turner, Betty Lashea, Mildred Hayward and Lois Touvell and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday August 9, 2014 Southside Baptist Church 2007 Boydton Plank Road, Petersburg, Virginia 23805 with the Minister Kevin Squires officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends Friday August 8, 2014 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory 2033 Boulevard.
