Earl E. Humphrey, 70, of Colonial Heights, passed away on December 3, 2008, at VCU Health Care Center after a three year battle with Acute Leukemia. Mr. Humphrey was born in Elizabethton, Tennessee, the son of the late Carl G Humphrey. He is survived by his mother, Tina Morton Humphrey of Elizabethton, Tennessee; his wife of 45 years, Johnnie Furman Humphrey of Colonial Heights; his son, John C. Humphrey and wife, Nadja of Colonial Heights; his daughter, Robin Humphrey Pritchard and husband, Lane of Hopewell; three grandchildren, Brandy and Shawn Humphrey, and Mary Dale Pritchard. He is also survived by one brother, Sam Humphrey (Betsy); three sisters, Linda Carr (Rowe), Kay McGee (John), and Karen Tester (Terry) all of Elizabethton, Tennessese; mother-in-law, Mildred Furman; sisters-in-law, Betty Covington (Bob) and Barbara Story (Wayne) both of Colonial Heights, and a large extended family. Mr. Humphrey moved to the tri-cities area in 1961, and was a public school teacher and administrator for 35 years in Hopewell, Dinwiddie, Colonial Heights and Prince George. In 1996, he retired from Hopewell Public Schools and pursued his hobbies of gardening, traveling and volunteering in his church and community. He was an active member, deacon and elder of First Christian Church Petersburg, Virginia and the Richmond Emmaus Community. He was an active member of the Colonial Heights Lions Club and served in many capacities, including President. He was also an active member of the Petersburg Post C and the Virginia Travelers Protective Association and served as statewide President. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at First Christian Church, 301 South Boulevard, Petersburg, Virginia. Visitation with the family will follow. The Reverend Tom Brown and the Reverend Richard Hedrick will conduct the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Massey Cancer Center, Clinical Research Department, at Virginia Commonwealth University Health Care Center, P.O.
