Edith Grace (New) Powell, formerly of Pine Hill, New Jersey now residing in Colonial Heights, Virginia, was called home on Tuesday, July 20, 2010. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her late husband, James Howard Powell. She worked at the Overbrook Jr. and Sr. High Schools from 1960 to June 1969. She worked at Cooks Plastic Corp. of Blackwood, New Jersey for 20 years, retiring in 1989. She was a member of St. Edwards Parish in Pine Hill, New Jersey from 1941 to 1996, a member of St. Edwards Altar & Rosary Society of Pine Hill, a volunteer for the Judicial Conference, from Camden, New Jersey, a committee of Pine Hill from 1986 to 1996, a past President of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary of Blackwood, New Jersey Post 7927, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary of Pine Hill Post 2142, the Golden Age Club of Laurel Springs, New Jersey, also President for one year, and then became a Group Trip Leader, the Golden Skipper Club of Blackwood, and Hider Lane Club of Gloucester Township, New Jersey, the Southernaires of Colonial Heights, the Senior Citizen Club of Colonial Heights, the Colonial Heights American Legion Auxiliary Post 284, St. Ann Catholic Parish, Colonial Heights, the Altar and Arts of St. Ann Catholic Church, a Group Leader of St. Ann's Travel Club, and the Catholic Daughters of America. Mrs. Powell is survived by her son, James J. Powell and wife, Rose of Vineland, New Jersey; also her beloved daughter, Edith E. Bleattler and husband, John of Chesterfield, Virginia; three granddaughters, Debbie Powell Smith of Sewell, New Jersey, Lisa Bleattler Kelly and husband, Sean of Chester, Virginia, and Karen Bleattler Schommer and husband, Matt of Minnesota; four great-grandchildren, Aidan John Kelly, Tanner Paul Kelly, Brooke Ashley Smith, and Elijah Thomas Schommer. A funeral mass will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at St. Ann Catholic Church, 17111 Jefferson Davis Highway, Colonial Heights, with Father Lou Ruoff, Celebrant. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Saturday at the church. Interment will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, July 26, 2010 at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 300 W.
