Edna Addison Griffin, 89, of Chester, VA, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, July 3, 2024. She was born on June 1, 1935, and grew up in “the village”, Lakeview Avenue in Colonial Heights. She was preceded in death by her husband, John J.T. Griffin; her mother, Ruth Ayscue Hawkins; father, Joseph Rufus Addison; and her brother, Frank “Bubba” Addison. She is survived by her children, Melinda Stringfield (Bill), Bonnie Stewart, and Deana Williams; grandchildren, Jodi Degan, Christopher Stewart (Pearl), Jona Williams McKenzie (Chris), Chana Stewart, and Brandon Williams; and ten great-grandchildren; and sister, Carol Addison Mayes.
She worked for Brown and Williamson Tobacco in Petersburg until its closure. She worked at several places as an administrative assistant, and retired from Chesterfield County Utilities Department. Edna was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church, later Harrowgate Baptist, and lastly, Chester Outreach Church of the Nazarene.
Edna dearly loved her family: her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She always had pictures of her “babies” up where she could see them.
She loved going to Nags Head, crocheting, watching the birds, and doing word puzzle books. She always had open arms and gave warm hugs. She wouldn’t cook you a big meal, but she loved taking you out to eat. She will be sorely missed and remembered with love by family and all those that knew her. She will always live in our hearts and a piece of our soul.
Much gratitude and blessings to Apple, who loved her and was loved by her. The family also wished to thank all of the staff at Lucy Corr Assisted Living for the kindness, care, love, and compassion she was shown.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, VA 23834. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 12, 2024, in Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Road, S. Prince George, VA. The family kindly requests no flowers, but rather memorial donations be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org/donate
