Edna D. Newsom, 97, of Colonial Heights, Virginia, died Friday September 11, 2009. She was born on February 18, 1912, in Elkins, West Virginia. Edna was the daughter of the late John Stark and Amy Pritt Hinchman. She was a 1959 graduate of the Petersburg General Hospital School of Practical Nursing, passed the Virginia State Board Exam, and became a Licensed Practical Nurse that same year. She was employed by the Petersburg General Hospital until she retired. Edna was a long time member of Wesley United Methodist Church, and later the Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Newsom was preceded in death by her husband, Alonzo Newsom, and her first husband, Harold B. Daniels; three brothers, Leslie L. Hinchman, Cecil S. Hinchman, and Winfred H. Hinchman; three sisters, Eva E. Hinchman, Velma A. Hinchman, and Gertrude H. Eskew; one son, Arthur B. Daniels; two grandsons, Timothy B. Heckel, and Arthur B. Daniels Jr.; one great granddaughter, Christie A. Heckel. Survivors include two sisters, Virginia H. Chenoweth, and Ruby H. Kerns both of Elkins, West Virginia; two daughters, Winifred D. Heckel and husband Richard, and Vivian D. Laderach and husband Ralph, all of Colonial Heights; one son, Ralph R. Daniels and wife Lillian, of Cartersville, Va.; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 14, 2009 in the Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church, 211 Lynchburg Ave. Colonial Heights, Va. 23834, with the Reverend Dr. Paul Bonham officiating. Interment Sunset Memorial Park, Chester, Va. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church Monday. Arrangements by the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E.
