Edna Smith Nunnally, 104, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at her residence following a period of declining health. Born in North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Martha Ella Vincent Smith and William Preston Smith; and was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Edward Nunnally. As a very young child, she moved to Virginia and became a lifelong resident of Petersburg and Colonial Heights. She was a faithful member of West End Baptist Church for 80 years, and was very active in the Sunday school. She retired after 40 years with Brown and Williamson Tobacco Company and started a second career with her husband as owners of Nunnally's Gardentown Nursery until his death in 1996. She is survived by a daughter, Robertta Nunnally Biggs of Richmond; a son, Robert Edward Nunnally, Jr. of Roanoke; two granddaughters, Patricia English of Port Charlotte, Florida and Kathy McCann of Bradenton, Florida; two grandsons, Wesley Kirby Biggs of Farmville and Philip Macon Biggs of Chester; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 21, 2016 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, with Dr. Mark Hughes officiating. Burial to follow in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg.
