Edsel Bland Sr., 76, of Manteo, North Carolina, formerly of Prince George, Virginia, passed away on Monday, May 19, 2014 at Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia. He was the son of the late Johnny and Annie Leggett Bland, and was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. Mr. Bland served with the U.S. Army in the Airborne Division. He loved hunting & fishing and the outdoors. Mr. Bland is survived by his loving wife of 34 years Marsha Bland; sons, Chris Bland and wife, Heather of Manteo North Carolina, Paul Stuart Vaught of Chesterfield, Virginia, Joel Roscoe Vaught and wife, Vicki of Narrows, Virginia; daughter, Susan Cooke and husband, George of Dendron, Virginia; grandchildren, Kelly, Brooke, Jordan, Anna, Savannah, Hannah, Christian, Jeni, Lindsey, Stefanie, Kimberly, Bobby, Elizabeth, Victoria and Abigail; brothers, Robert Bland of Wakefield, Virginia, John Bland and wife, Susan, Gurney Bland and wife, Brenda; and a sister, Sarah Jordan all of Richmond; numerous nieces, nephews, and his very special companion, his dog, Obie. A private graveside service was held at Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, Virginia where Pastor Philip Bland and Pastor Ron Talley officiated. Arrangements were handled by the Petersburg Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 3835 S. Crater Road.
