Edwin Henry Hanzlik, 72, of Petersburg, passed away on Monday, November 14, 2011 at John Randolph Medical Center. Born in Prince George, he was the son of the late Randolph Hanzlik Sr. and Mary Kanusek Hanzlik, and was preceded in death by his brother, Gilbert E. Hanzlik Sr. Mr. Hanzlik was a U.S. Army Veteran and retired from Allied Signal (Honeywell), the Chesterfield Plant, with 37 years of service. He was an avid ball player in his younger days, and the first player inductee from Virginia into the USSSA Softball Hall of Fame. Edwin is survived by his brother, Randolph Hanzlik Jr. and wife, Carol; his sister-in-law, Anne Hanzlik all of Prince George; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 17, 2011 in the Petersburg Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 3935 S. Crater Road, with Deacon Edward Hanzlik officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends Thursday from 9 to 10:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
