Edythe Virginia Schutt Martin, 91, of Colonial Heights, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 08, 2015. Born on January 27, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Addie and Herman Schutt (U.S.A. WWI Infantryman). She was also preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, C.W. "Bill" Martin, Sr., and her brother H.H. "Dick" Schutt. Mrs. Martin was an incredibly talented woman as an artist, seamstress, and cook, among other things. She was a woman of ONES: one home, which was built by her and her husband after he returned from WWII as a paratrooper and a survivor of the Battle of the Bulge; one child; and one employer, starting at Bell Telephone Company as an operator plugging telephone lines into a connection board and retiring as a Vice President. She was a generous and gracious lady. Mrs. Martin is survived by her son, C.W. "Bill" Martin, Jr. and wife, Laura; grandchildren, Alex and Jesse Martin; sister, Hazel Davis and husband, Leroy; brother, J.S. "Jimmy" Schutt and wife, Faye; special niece, Tracy Schutt, who was her bookkeeper and confidante during her later years; nephews, "Jim-Jim" Schutt, Ricky Schutt, Steve Schutt, Jimmy Davis, and Jesse Wayne Tolley; and niece, Debra DePersi. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dunlop House in Colonial Heights for their kind care and considerations. It was obvious that she was one of their favorites from the extra care and affection she received. A private Memorial Service will be observed at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National D-Day Memorial Foundation, P.O. Box 77, Bedford, Virginia 24523, as it was a special place to Edythe and Bill. Arrangements by the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
