Elaine Akers Nance

Elaine Akers Nance went to be with our heavenly father on Tuesday, April 16^th, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband and the love of her life Ralph Elbert Nance, Jr., and her daughter Linda Nance Worrell. She is survived by her daughters Kathleen and Theresa Nance, her son Mark Nance (Kim), grandchildren Keith Bosher (Nancy) and Mark Alan Nance, and great grandchildren Keith Bosher (Hannah) and Melinda Bosher.

Elaine graduated Washington Lee High School in 1951. She went on to obtain her Nursing Degree from Johnston Willis and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1955. She had a long nursing career at Petersburg General Hospital and Colonial Heights Convalescent Center. She was a long-time member of Washington Street United Methodist Church and loved her church family. As an original resident of Sherwood Hills, she made it her mission to welcome new families to the neighborhood. She enjoyed spending time with her neighbors and cherished their friendships. She loved and supported our community and was grateful for all the services she received, specifically those from the Senior Center and Public Library.

She was our family’s rock and glue that kept us all encouraged and lifted up. She absolutely adored her family and we adored her. Her heart’s desire was to just be together any chance she could. She never said no to an outing, a walk, a reason to share a meal, or go on an adventure! 

Elaine enjoyed life, found the positive side and view in everything and in everyone. She hoped big and loved even bigger! There is no replacement and we will carry her on with us from this day forward striving to be more like her. We are so grateful for the time she got to be with us, even though for us it was not long enough. We are comforted to know she will be watching over each of us, praying over us, and that we will meet again. Rest in peace and love our precious angel. We will love you forever GinGin.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 27^th, 2024 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. The family will receive friends for fellowship immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be sent to the Colonial Heights Senior Center, Public Library, or Fire/EMS. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
