Ella E. Watts, 74, of Petersburg passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at Southside Regional Medical Center. Born on September 16, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Martina Martin, and was also preceded in death by her daughter, Lucinda P. Martin. Ella was an active member of Monumental Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school. She was a nurses aide at Atlantic County Home in Northfield, New Jersey, then later became a military wife. She is survived by her loving husband, retired United States Army SFC Philip R. Watts; daughters, Martina Martin of Arizona, Amelia Townsend and husband, Jimmy of South Carolina and Twyaina Martin of Texas; sons, Frederick Tennant-Martin of Texas, Phillip Watts Jr. of Petersburg, Virginia, Leonard Watts of Petersburg, Virginia and Beneil Watts and wife, Katie of Kentucky; grandchildren, Sharell, Egypt, Jimmy II, Taneisha, Donnell, Eric, Emmanuel, and Ella; numerous great-grandchildren; brothers, Vermont J. Martin and wife, Gwendolyn and Lawrence Oliver Martin and wife, Cheryl; uncle, Alfonza P. Martin Sr. and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Monumental Baptist Church, 2925 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, Virginia 23805, with the Reverend Barry Ginn officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday from 10-11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Monumental Baptist Church.
