Elvira Beville Shaw, 93, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at the Dunlop House in Colonial Heights. Born in Dinwiddie County, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Ada Rainey Beville, and the widow of Lawrence C. Shaw. Mrs. Shaw was a member of the Highland United Methodist Church in Colonial Heights, the Virginia United Methodist Conference serving on the Board of Church and Society, Virginia Federation of Women's Club, Colonial Heights Women's Club, and Petersburg Women's Club. She was the Secretary for the Virginia Electoral Board for 25 years, the Colonial Heights Electoral Board since 1960, the Social Service Board for Colonial Heights and Chesterfield, the Criminal Justice Board, Chester Agency on Aging, Central Virginia Health Agency Inc., the State Department of Volunteerism, the Department of Aging Board of Directors, and a board member of the Richard Bland College Foundation, a lobbyist for AARP and has been on the Legislative Committee since 1976. She is survived by her son, Ben Shaw and wife, Nancy of Richmond; sister, Frances Holladay and husband, John of Knoxville, Tennessee and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will take place 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at Highland United Methodist Church, 125 E. Westover Ave. Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834 with the Reverend Dennis Lipke and the Reverend Dr. Dorothy O'Quinn officiating Burial will take place at 2:00 p.m. following the service in Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery on Boydton Plank Road in McKenney. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home and Crematory 2033 Boulevard.
