Emerson Keslar

Emerson LeRoy "Gus" Keslar, 84, of Colonial Heights, died Monday, September 6, 2010 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born October 31, 1925 in Scottdale, Pennsylvania to the late William C. and Arzetta McConnel Keslar, and was preceded in death by a sister, Alberta Ford. Mr. Keslar was a WW II, United States Navy Veteran, and retired from Nolde Brothers Bakery. He was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Colonial Heights, a member of the Colonial Heights American Legion Post #284, the 40&8 Voiture #1530, Legionnaire of the year in 2007 for Post #284, American Legion Baseball Manager, past President of the Colonial Heights Quarterback Club, and he was involved in many civic activities in Colonial Heights for over 50 Years. Mr. Keslar is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy Setliff Keslar; a daughter, Debra K. Farley of Chester; a son, Emerson L. Keslar Jr. and wife, Grace of Wall, New Jersey; grandchildren, Matt Farley and Danielle Bowen of Chester, Caroline and Daniel Keslar of Wall, New Jersey; great grandchildren, Talon and Nicole Farley of Chester; sisters, Ruby Curtis of Greenville, Indiana, Velva Young of Colonial Heights, Bonnie Oates of Danville, and Donna Motley of Colonial Heights; numerous nieces and nephews and many dear friends in the community. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 11, 2010 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with the Reverend Dr. John P. Mason officiating. Interment will follow in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday (tonight) at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to Woodlawn Baptist Church, 3120 Woodlawn Avenue, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834.
