Emery Ray Coe, 77, of Colonial Heights, died Friday, November 13, 2009, at John Randolph Medical Center. He was the son of the late James R. and Ruth Moler Coe, and the widower of Paula D. Coe. Mr. Coe was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Colonial Heights. He was a retired veteran with the United States Army having served during the Vietnam and Korean Wars, and was a Bronze Star and Purple Heart recipient. He was a member of the Colonial Heights American Legion Post #284, and a former employee of Ukrop's. Mr. Coe's passion in life was metal detecting. He is survived by a son, Jamie E. Coe and wife, Jenny of Chesterfield; a daughter, Suzette Abrahamson and husband, Paul of Woodbridge; a granddaughter, Lainey Coe; two grandsons, Ryan and Kris Abrahamson and their families; his mother-in-law, Frankie Terry; beloved family members, Dr. Talmadge "Rudy" Howell and wife, Cheryl, David & Donna Chisolm and their family, and Louise Vance and her family; his faithful dog, P.J. A funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at Immanuel Baptist Church, 630 Lafayette Avenue, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834 with the Reverend Fred Adkins officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard.
