Ennis William Ramey, 74, died February 4, 2011, at home, surrounded by his wife and daughters. He was preceded in death by his son, Mark William Ramey, his parents Vennis & Genelia Ramey, and a brother, Varna W. Ramey & sister-in-law, Patricia Ramey. He was born October 5, 1936 in Clayton, Georgia. He resided in Newport News, Va. for many years, graduating from Newport News High School in 1955. Ennis retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years, in which he served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was the recipient of two purple hearts, four bronze stars, and many commendations. Survivors include his wife of fifty-one years, Genevieve McCloskey Ramey of Colonial Heights; his daughters, Theresa Ramey Grizzle & husband, David, of Matoaca and Anmarie Ramey Pierce & husband, Jeff, of Colonial Heights; one brother, Corvalis W. Ramey & wife, Gertrude, of Chesterfield, nine grandchild, two great-grandchildren, and very special friends, Ronald & Janice Winter. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 pm, Thursday, February 10, 2011 at St. Ann Catholic Church, 17111 Jefferson Davis Highway, Colonial Heights, Va. Family visitation will begin an hour before the service. A private burial will be held at a later date at St. Ann's Cemetery.
